Collector's Piece: This is a special cotton kimono top worn by believers on pilgrimage to the 88 Buddhist temples on the island of Shikoku, one of the 4 main islands of the Japan archipelago; This coat is worn by devotees as they make a pilgrimage during the Kobo-Daishi 88 pilgrimage, called “Hachijuhakkasho”; this pilgrimage covers 727 miles / 1,170 kilometers going to each of the 88 temples on ; At each temple this garment gets stamped; there are also short poems for each temple on this jacket;
This is worn by men or women; Size is a small adult USA size; Fabric is clean, novelty piece, possibly for display. We are not sure how old this piece is, but at least from the 1980s.
